1. DOWNLOAD THIS APP- ULTIMATE GUITAR CHORDS

This one of the best APPS available on Google Play store on Apple I store for the guitarist.  You get millions of free guitar chords through your APP.  You can learn to play almost any song with ease on the palm of your hand.  I love using this APP as not only does it show you how to play different chords you can also choose between different playing levels.  Like if you a beginner you can select that you are and the APP will show you beginner guitar songs with the chords.  Very cool and must be up there with the top APP for any level of guitarist. You also have the option to play the song alongside the Youtube song that you can play to make sure you know the tune. – Guitar Hacks

2. DO NOT PLAY WITH A GUITAR PICK

I have found that most songs that you play you to have a guitar pick.  The guitar pick only seems to make the beginner guitarist more confused.  This especially if you are a complete beginner.  You can strum with your fingernails instead.  The guitar pick only amplifies the sound of the chords and is not necessary when you practising. – Guitar Hacks

DO I NEED PICK IF I AM PLAYING LIVE

When playing live you do not need a pick as the guitar pickup will pick up the guitar strumming from your fingers.  Remember to strum off your fingernails.  Strum down off your nails of the index, middle and ring fingers.  The nails bring the sound out nicely and almost acts as a guitar pick. – Guitar Hacks

DO NOT STRUM OFF YOUR FINGER SKIN

If you do not need a guitar pick you might find that you strum off your middle guitar finger skin just above your fingernail.  This can cause your skin to scrape off while playing. I had this same issue when playing for our church band a few months ago.  My fingers actually bled all over the guitar.  Luckily for me, no one noticed. – Guitar Hacks

3. PLAY WITH A THIN GUITAR PICK

If you want to play with a guitar pick it is best to play with a thinner guitar pick.  You can start playing on a guitar pick of 0.46mm as a beginner.  The thinner guitar pick will play and feel better as the pick is not stiff while strumming on the guitar strings.  I have found that the thinnest guitar pick play beautifully and sound fantastic.  The thinner picks do not pull on the strings at all and should make a great sound when strumming. – Guitar Hacks

4. DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR GUITAR WHEN A SOUND SYSTEM IS ON

This is a typical beginner guitar mistake.  You are at band practice and you plug in your guitar into the sound system while it is on or live.  This is very bad for the sound system and can do damage to the speakers and to the sound system.  Rather make sure the sound system is off or ask the sound technician to turn the sound system off before plugging in the guitar.  Save yourself the embarrassment and make sure you remember this one. – Guitar Hacks

5. TURN YOUR CELLPHONE INTO A GUITAR TUNER

You at band practice and you notice that your guitar is out of tune but you do not have a guitar tuner. No need to worry, there is a simple hack that can help you with this one.  It is called Guitar Tuna App from Apple of Play store.  This guitar app is special as you can use it to tune in your guitar even if you have forgotten your tuner at home. As long as you have your cellphone at hand, simply click on the APP and you sorted.  This APP also allows you to tune in your guitar with different tuning settings.  The APP itself is very simple to use and you can tune in your guitar almost the same way you will tune in with a normal standard guitar tuner.  You will put your cellphone on your guitar body and strum each guitar string.  The APP will indicate how much you need to turn the tuning machines in order to get the guitar in tune. – Guitar Hacks

6. HOW TO KEEP YOUR FINGERS FROM GETTING PAINFUL WHILE PLAYING

Playing and practicing the guitar can put a lot of strain on your fingertips.  The strain will come from the pressure of the strings on your skin.  This eventually causes a calluses to form on the tip of your fingers.  Even after playing for many years you can still get pain from the guitar strings.  This pain can almost stop you from playing as it can get very painful and in rare occasions can cause the tips of your fingers to bleed after playing or even while playing. – Guitar Hacks

METHYLATED SPIRITS

Dip your guitar playing fingertips into a cup of Methylated Spirits for two minutes a day for about two weeks.  The spirits will cause you to cause your fingertips to dry out and eventually harden.  All thought this is not my favorite technique it certainly does help.  I would suggest practicing and building up natural calluses and then dipping your fingertips to get that extra hardened effect. – Guitar Hacks

KEEP ON PLAYING AND PRACTISING

If you stop playing for more than a week you will notice that the calluses that have formed from playing the guitar will start to go away.  The best way is simply to carry on practicing a few hours each week.  The continuous pressure on your fingers will keep the calluses on your fingers. – Guitar Hacks

7. PRACTICE OFF YOUTUBE VIDEOS

This must be the easiest way to learn. Youtube has loads of songs that have guitar chords that go across the screen.  Playing and practicing like this is super easy and you can not only learn how to stay in beat but you will also learn loads of new chords.  I wrote an article called 100 Super Easy Guitar Songs For Beginners.  In this article, I have given you 100 easy songs you can play with on Youtube.  These are mainly beginner songs but there are some intermediate songs you can strum with.  Playing with songs will improve your guitaring skill by a huge amount.  You will also find that the more you play the more difficult the songs is that you will eventually be able to play without much effort.  If you get stuck with any chord just Google it.  Google has every chord available or you can even watch them played on Youtube.
